Madison J. Gray, a former writer for Time Magazine, will join Ebony Magazine as its new managing editor of Ebony.com and JetMag.com. Both target the African American market.
Most recently home page editor for CBSNews.com, Gray will bring investigative reporting experience to the publications, parent company Johnson Publishing announced Thursday.
In addition to Gray, Johnson Publishing announced the hiring of Chan C. Smith, a filmmaker and visual media specialist, to its digital production team. Smith is a member of Array, an organization founded by director Ava DuVernay to distribute films by people of color and women. Johnson Publishing also hired reporter Shantell Jamison, who will join the Ebony team as a news editor.
“These talented professionals are making an immediate impact on our diversity of content and our multimedia capabilities,” said Kyra Kyles, VP and Head of Digital Editorial for Johnson Publishing. “We’ve recently refreshed the appearance of ebony.com in order to leverage all the great stories, videos, photo essays and investigative pieces they bring to the table.”
