From borrowing $1,800 to produce his first magazine to helping launch Vibe Magazine, Keith Clinkscales’ name is synonymous with media entrepreneurship. The current CEO of REVOLT Media, which is owned by platinum rapper and music producer Sean “Diddy Combs” in partnership with Comcast, spoke about his early days as founder of Urban Profile Magazine as well as current plans for making REVOLT TV network this generation’s MTV.
“No matter what you do entrepreneurially, it’s going to be difficult,” Clinkscales told a packed crowd at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center in Washington, D.C. “There’s this lovely notion that people have, it’s like, ‘oh, I’m going to be my own boss.’ Well, you’re not really your own boss. You’re just working for all kinds of bosses be they advertisers, investors or employees. So if you’re going to work that hard, you better really like what you do.” — Vance Brinkley
