Understanding the fundamentals of lighting is vital in your career as a photographer or multimedia journalist. One of the key components in adding dimension to your subject is the hair light.
The purpose of the hair light is to accent the hair and shoulders of your subject, separating them from the background. The hair light should balance out the image, not distract the viewer’s attention from the center of interest.
In this short video clip, you can see how adding the hair light accents the shoulders, hair and separates my subject from the dark background.
Tools: C-stand, sandbag, boom arm and light (with dimmer if possible).
