Oona Tamsyn King has some series bonafides: Baroness King of Bow, a Labour Party Member of Parliament, and former Chief Diversity Officer of Channel 4 in the United Kingdom
Former Labour Party MP Oona King is trading in UK politics for a coveted position at YouTube. According to Adweek, the Brit recently announced that she will be the new Global Director of Diversity for the Google-owned corporation.

At a recent event held at the House of Commons, King told her fellow MPs that her new position at the video platform giant was an “amazing opportunity,” says The Guardian.
“[This is] where the most exciting ideas are coming from. It’s looking at the future of broadcasting, because YouTube is the future of broadcasting,” she said.
King, who also served as a diversity exec at UK’s network Channel 4, said the Brexit vote outcome and the change of power in Parliament shaped her decision to accept this position.
“I joined Labour because I wanted Britain to have a Labour prime minister. Until we change our leader I don’t think that’s a possibility,” she said.
In the era of #OscarsSoWhite, this particular hire underscores the video website’s continued commitment to diversity, Mashable noted. King’s role will be to continue that progress by overseeing strategy across content, marketing, branding and talent.
King, who is of African-American and Jewish decent, will relocate to San Francisco to start her new position.
